BW OU Viability Rankings

Welcome to the BW 1U Viability Ranking Thread! In case you're not familiar with the concept, we place Pokémon in certain ranks here, based on their impact on the tier as well as their general viability in the tier. This is an excellent help while teambuilding and it serves as a general outline of the tier. Furthermore it is used in our formation of the tier below.

If you feel that a Pokémon is misplaced, feel free to make a post about it - that's what this thread is for. As long as you are reasonably sensible and courteous this thread should run smoothly.

Pokémon are sorted into the respective categories based on how well they perform their roles. Within each ranking Pokemon are listed by their individual viability.

S Rank

These Pokémon are the most effective Pokémon in the metagame. Their offensive and defensive prowess, as well as versatility, and ability to fulfil a variety of important roles lend themselves to this.

B Rank

These Pokemon are strong choices in the metagame, but perform less important roles or are less consistent than Pokémon in the Rank above. They have larger flaws than Pokémon in above ranks, or face greater competition from similar Pokemon, reducing their usefulness.

C Rank

These Pokemon are more infrequent sights in the metagame, particularly in top level matches, but are nevertheless viable Pokemon. They are less effective in the metagame than Pokémon in above ranks, but are effective with proper support.

Suppose we could start off where the discussion on Smogon left off, i.e. Landorus-T and Jirachi for S. Other than that, post away!

Mew and especially Mienshao and Slowking are all listed really, really high. I am aware usage stats don't tell the whole story but all three of them are higher than Heatran (in my opinion a core pokemon in the metagame). The following usage stats from Smog Tour 23 are relevant (for some reason smog tour 24 stats for BW aren't public?):

Heatran 11.3%
Mienshao 4.4%
Slowking 5.24%
Mew 5.94%

Volcarona 7.2%
Reuniculus 6%

Volcaron and Reuniculus are the bottom mons in A-. To be honest mid/low A- feels reasonable for Mienshao and Slowking. Mienshao has extremely low bulk and serious issues with pokemon such as Jellicent. Slowking is a good regenerating water resist but its pursuit weak and competes with pokemon like amoonguss (has spore, no pursuit weak, absorbs T-spikes). Slowking has some nice sets like nasty pot but its not a dominant pokemon in the metagame.

I am personally ok with Mew in A+. the wisp set is very hard for lots of teams to handle. Even Heatran can get worn down or lose to EQ/Wisp Mew. However given the usage stats the burden of proof is on the people who want to keep Mew/King/Shao in A+. In my experience you can mostly ignore Mienshao and Slowking when you are building a BW-L team. I would not ignore Mew. No one would ignore Heatran.

What do other people think of these mons?
